The Spanish Mackerel have been absent from Laguna Bay for a while so it was good to see a bit of action from the species over the last few days. Father and son team Nick and Tom Stewart (right) were out at Jew Shoal this morning when this 17.5kg 'Spaniard' took an interest in their Mullet on 3x5/0 ganged hooks. Their outfit was a Shimano Taipan rod and a Shimano TLD15 reel loaded with 30lb line.

Coral Trout are now making their presence felt at Sunshine Reef, although the 6kg fish that Jeff White (below left) boated this morning was a standout. Jeff, who was using a 40lb handline, attracted this fella with a whole Pilchard bait.

Local yak angler Alex 'Iron Bar' Kiefer (below right) got blown away by a big Bluefin at Sunshine Reef on Tuesday but made up for it by boating this 8.5kg specimen just north of Little Hall's Reef on Wednesday. Alex, who was armed with a Wilson Live Fibre rod and a Shimano TSS4 reel loaded with 30lb Platinum line, was trolling a Gold Bomber lure from his Swing 'Angler' fishing kayak at the time.

Young Daniel Farge (right) was another lucky angler to get into the Coral Trout this week, again at Sunshine Reef. Daniel was out there on Sunday when his Pilchard floater was monstered by the 2kg specimen he's pictured with. He was kitted out with a Purglas rod and a Shimano Bantam reel loaded with 8kg line.

And Sunshine Reef turned it on for the Webber family when they spent a a lazy half day there yesterday afternoon. Everyone got onto fish and two of the girls were keen to post their PB's for all to see. Ten year old Luci (below left) was very pleased with herself when she hooked and landed the 2kg Spotted Mackerel she's posing with using a Pilchard bait as her draw card. And twelve year old Charlotte (below right) was more than happy with the 1.5kg Sweetlip she attracted with her Squid bait.
Both girls were kitted out with Wilson Live Fibre custom rods and Alvey 825C reels loaded with 30lb Pioneer Flexline to Paternoster rigs.
