Venezuelan visitor Alejandro Franco Lancini's greatest wish has been to catch a Spanish Mackerel. He'd only tried offshore fishing a couple of times but had heard a lot about this much sought after species. On a full day Cougar One trip to North Reef on Friday Alejandro's wish finally came true when this 8kg 'Spaniard' monstered his floated Pilchard bait. He was kitted out with a Wilson Live Fibre rod and a Shimano Baitrunner 6500 reel loaded with 20lb line.

The Longtails are finally entering the bay in numbers as local yak angler James Grant (below left) found on Thursday. James was trolling a 10cm white Rapala X-Rap north of Jew Shoal not long after noon when the 9kg 'Bluefin' he's pictured with pounced. He was armed with a Daiwa Interline rod and a Daiwa Certate 4000 threadline reel loaded with 15kg braid.

And the following day another local yak angler Jim Thompson (above right) was out in the same area on his kayak and after a hectic session, came back with two of these hard fighting fish which tipped the scales at 7.5kg and 9.5kg.
