Blue Water Charters 'deckie-in-training' Chris 'Fella' Arnold (left)
and buddy Matt 'Gibbo' Gibbs were out with Scott Cochrane (page1) when he
nailed his first Longtail. Actually, this is the first Tuna Gibbo
has boated so it's been a debut week. Again it was Laguna Bay on Tuesday
and this dynamic duo were armed with Ugly Stiks and Shimano 6500 Baitrunner
reels loaded with 20lb line and 80lb leaders. Their baits were mixed but
the most effective on the day were whole Yakkas on 8/0 hooks. It's a good
thing the boys took their catches across the road to Davo's as the Cougar
'I' camera developed a fault in the rewind mechanism, effectively ruining
a week's worth of offshore charter action photos. |
| There've been numerous reports of anglers being repeatedly busted off by large or very quick Mangrove Jacks. Brisbane angler Adam Slater, left, lost a couple at Munna Point on Tuesday but made up for it the next afternoon by landing this 1.64kg specimen. Adam was armed with a baitcaster rod and a Shimano Calcutta 250 reel loaded with 6lb line and trace. His bait was live Herring on a 1/0 hook. |

| Tim
Storrer, centre, was more than happy with the excellent eating size 1.295kg
Flathead he boated at the 2nd ski run up around Tewantin on Monday. Tim
got his result trolling a Lively Lure 'Mad Mullet' and was kitted out with
a custom rod and Shimano Chronarch 100 reel loaded with 4kg Platypus line. And Melbourne visitor John Heron was another angler who persevered through repeated Mangrove Jack bust-offs. John finally triumphed in the early hours of Thursday, nailing this 1.86kg 'Dog Bream' with Mullet fillet on a 1/0 hook. He was using a Shakespeare threadline combo, 15lb line and 40lb trace. |
