OFFSHORE: Well, atrocious offshore conditions prevailed all the way through from last Sunday and the final week of the month wound up a wet, windy fizzer. The winds didn't deviate too much from fresh to strong variable (25 to 30 knot) Southerlies and the swells were a lumpy two to three metres. Apart from that, we have nothing to report for offshore. Having just said that, however, if you read last week's report you'll know that the Cougar 'I' camera played up, resulting in a week's worth of film being lost. Fortunately the crew managed to get these shots of last Saturday's trip to Chardon's Reef using a client's camera for backup, so at least we've got a few reefies to look at. |
| On the left we have George Starkey from Woolongong, New South Wales, posing with his standout, a 6.5kg Scarlet Sea Perch. George is a regular with Noosa Blue Water Charters and set the mood for the full day charter by boating this thumper Large-Mouthed Nannygai not long after the first pick drop. He was using a Shimano TLD15 combo, 10kg line and his bait was live Yakkas and Slimy Mackerel. |

| In the blue check shirt, and obviously enjoying himself, Dale Roberts from Adelaide, another regular client, needed a hand from Cougar 'I' skipper Sam 'Slammer' Ladd to display some of the standouts; Scarlet Sea Perch (4kg to 6.5kg) and a 7kg Snapper. Dale was armed with a Penn Power Stick and an Alvey reel loaded with 10kg line. He too was using live Yakkas and Slimy Mackerel for bait. It was a great day and the rest of the catch was Cobia, Pearl Perch, Red Emperor, Teraglin Jewfish and Squire. |
ONSHORE:
Any attempt to
cross the Noosa bar this week would have resulted in disaster but the beaches
and estuary system more than made up for the rough conditions offshore.
On the North Shore, the stretch from the first cutting down and into the
mouth yielded Dart, Whiting and some quality Tailor. In the river, Flathead
and Trevally were the most consistent species this week with good catches
coming from the Frying Pan, the Woods Bays, Munna Point and up around the
Yacht Club. Bream and Whiting were most prevalent from Munna Point to the
river mouth while schools of Garfish were reported up around the ferry and
towards the mouth. Saratoga were on the bite at Borumba Dam and a bonus
this week was Jewfish around Munna Point, which is where Brisbane angler
Martin Grieve, right, landed a couple weighing in at 2.7kg (pictured) and
2.4kg. Martin got his result on Tuesday night fishing the run-in tide. He
was armed with a Silstar Power Tip rod and a nondescript threadline reel
loaded with 12lb line and 40lb trace. His bait was live Herring. |
