| Sunshine Reef was as good a spot as any to drop the pick this week as local angler Craig 'Chicko' Vella (below left) found on Thursday. Chiko spent a pleasant morning there burleying up a few Snapper and Squire and later, after weighing his catch in at Davo's, needed his son Jet and daughter Moet to help hold up his 5kg to 6kg standouts for the photo. | |

| And Gordon Smith (above right) got a pleasant surprise at Sunshine Reef yesterday morning when his whole Pilchard on 3x4/0 hooks was swallowed by the 16kg Cobia he's pictured with. Gordon, who fought this very nice Black Kingfish for over 20 minutes, was armed with a Shimano T-Curve rod and a Shimano TLD25 reel loaded with 50lb line. | |
Trevally were still very active in the Woods Bays this
week with many of of the fish weighing in over the 2kg mark. Chris Lacey
and fishing buddy Tom Cels boated these 2.15kg and 2.25kg specimens and
a 1.5kg Tailor last Monday night using white Berkley Gulp Jerk Shads as
their draw card. Both young anglers were lightly rigged with 6lb Crystal
braid.![]() |
