Laguna Bay has been unusually quiet over the last few months so it was nice to see baitfish in numbers around Hall's Reef this week and, more importantly, a few bigger fish following them in. Local angler David Wibrow (right) hit the jackpot there just after lunchtime on Wednesday when he floated out live Slimy Mackerel and Yakka baits which were immediately hit on by a couple of 3kg Snapper then the 17kg Northern Bluefin Tuna David's pictured with. He was armed with a Wilson Live Fibre rod and a Shimano Baitrunner 6500 reel loaded with 25lb line.

North Reef produced well most of the week and, as at many other locations, Snapper were at the forefront of the catch. Fishing buddies Julz Gramatikas (below left) and Erin Haberle (below right) dropped into Davo's around 8am on Saturday morning for some Pilchards and after a quick trip to North Reef were back in the shop for a weigh-in and photo session by 11.30am. Somewhere in between they managed to drop the pick and boat the 5kg Snapper (on a Pilchard) and two 3kg Trevally (on offshore jigs) they're posing with. They were armed with Wilson Live Fibre rods mated to a Shimano TLD15 and an Emblan spin reel loaded with 12lb line and 60lb trace.

The Noosa Blue Water Charter boats were on the water at every opportunity this week and we'd have been surprised if they weren't considering the excellent fishing conditions. Geoff Cook from Roma, Queensland (right) joined a full day Cougar Too charter to North Reef on Tuesday and came back with this very nice 5kg Gold Band Snapper. He was kitted out with a Wilson Live Fibre rod and an Alvey 825C reel loaded with 30lb line.

And Cougar One deckie 'Kiwi' Mike Upson (below) won a few brownie points on last Friday's trip to 'The Coffees'. During a busy session a customer's hook-up on a quality Snapper almost ended in disaster when the gearbox on his reel blew just as he took the strike. Seeing it happen, Mike stepped in and 'handlined' the 5.5kg 'Knobby' off the bottom and had it on board in double quick time. There's ever a dull moment.
