The Fishing Classic, on the shores of the Noosa River

Well, this has been without a doubt one of the most successful 'Classics' in years. The weather was absolutely magnificent, the change of venue to the river front and the amalgamation with the 'Noosa Boat Show' inspired, and the reaction of the more than 700 registered contestants, extremely positive to say the least. The live weigh-in was well patronised with over 200 fish weighed, tagged and released as of competition close.

There was a tremendous amount of spectator interest in the actual release of the fish at the end of each day and especially so, as in the photo on the right, when the fish was in line for, and eventually won its category. Coolum angler Gavin Hobbs made it two in a row when he weighed in and later released this quality specimen on Saturday. At 3.158kg it was 398gm heavier than the fish that won him last year's Flathead category.
