Brisbane
angler Jason Degn, right, has the 'knowledge' when it comes to landing
quality Tailor and Trevally and he put it to good use in the early hours
of Sunday morning out around the National Park headland. Casting whole
fresh Yellowtail Pike on 4x8/0 ganged hooks (which he maintains is his
not-so-secret weapon) Jason not only landed the top weight 3.898kg Tailor
but came up with the winning 3.55kg Trevally as well! He was armed with
an Angler surf rod and an Alvey 700 reel loaded with 20lb Schneider line
and 60lb Jinkai trace. And Tony Mills (below), from Gympie, was a happy
man when his Saturday morning Whiting catch not only tipped the scales
at 628gms, but held off all comers throughout the weekend and won him
$2000.00 in cash and prizes for that species. His outfit was a SnyderGlas
estuary rod and an Alvey 500C reel loaded with 9lb Platypus line. His
bait? Live Davo's Beach Worms.![]() |
