And
you don't have to ask 'where's the jockey?' in this shot. He's holding
this horse of a Jewfish and he's
also the man who rode it all the way in to the beach on Friday night.
At 19.5kg this is an excellent Mulloway, certainly good enough to take
out the $2500 top spot for the species in the competition. Steve Andreassen
brought many a groan from the hopefuls when he weighed his catch in on
Saturday afternoon. It didn't even look like being bettered and we think
many anglers switched to targeting other species as soon as they saw it.
The North Shore sure made up for its lack of performance last year by
producing this and many other winners. This was a top effort as Steve's
Angler surf rod/Alvey 700 reel was loaded with 21lb Platil line, half
the line weight of the fish. His 40lb Trilene trace was terminated with
a 9/0 and 4/0 hook set and his bait was a slab of Tailor. Incidently,
this boomer came in nailed to the 4/0 hook. |
| While
this wasn't a record Bream compared to previous years, at 1.206kg it certainly
was a quality fish, good enough to take out the $2500 prize for this species
and put a smile on the face of Tewantin angler Peter Hodgetts. Sunshine
Beach early on Saturday morning was the magic spot and a live Beach Worm
on a No.2 hook got the winning result. Peter's outfit was a SnyderGlas
13' 6" surf rod and an Alvey 650 reel loaded with 12lb line. This was his fourth shot at a title. |
