And here's the big fella himself, local legend Cliff 'The Bear' Andreassen with his prize winning 614gm Dart. Cliff also led the pack all weekend with the top weight Tailor but was pipped at the post on Monday afternoon. Still, he picked up $2500 in cash and prizes with this fish so he wasn't complaining by any means. Cliff has been an entrant in the competition since its inception and over the previous ten years has walked away with five major prizes. Two other times for the Dart and three times for the winning Tailor. And it was the North Shore, again, that produced the goods. Cliff landed this Swallowtail around 8am on Monday morning using Tailor fillet on ganged 3x3/0 True Turn hooks. He was armed with an Angler surf rod and an Alvey 700 reel loaded with 20lb Platinum line. And just in case you're wondering, that's his nephew Steve on the previous page with the winning Jewfish. Cliff's brother Kevin picked up the Davo's early entry prize of $500 worth of tackle and Brian Byrne, another member of their fishing team won the draw for the $10,000 boat package. The message here is.. you've gotta be in it to win it, and being early helps.

Stan Jorgenson from Beerwah has also been an entrant in the 'Classic' since day one but this is the first major prize he's taken out. Goodonya mate, well done. Stan hooked this 3.234kg 'Lizard' about three kms North of Teewah at first light on Saturday morning using a Pilchard on 3x6/0 ganged hooks. His gear? An Angler surf rod, a Penn 850 spin reel and 24lb Platinum line.
