While there were plenty of 'boils' in Laguna Bay during the week, the trick was to get past the Bonito and Mackerel Tuna that were working the baitfish in numbers. And that's what Donovan O'Connor (right) did when he trolled around a boil with a tried and true Gold Bomber out behind. Donovan's lure attracted the attention of the 8.5kg Northern Bluefin Tuna he's pictured with and from that point on it was all over for this feisty fish. He was armed with a Shakespeare Ugly Stik and a Penn 4000 Power Graph threadline reel loaded with 20lb line.
And Tewantin angler Ben Webb (below) got a nice surprise when he cast out a Prawn on a No.6 longshank hook at Munna Point this morning. Ben, armed with an Abu rod and a Daiwa ProCaster reel loaded with 8lb line, soon found himself in a tussle with this 1.2kg Diamond Trevally.

Sunshine Beach was one of the hot spots for Whiting on the coastal surf beaches this week as local angler John Roberts (right) confirmed on Saturday afternoon. Armed with a SnyderGlas surf rod and and Alvey reel loaded with 6kg line, John used a Pippy on a No.2 hook as his draw card.

Roger Wilson (above left) was out beyond the headland yesterday, working the baitfish boils with Karl from River Fishing Safaris when his cast metal slug lure was monstered by the very nice 10kg Yellowfin Tuna he's posing with. Roger wasn't sure what threadline outfit he was using but it was certainly up to the task of defeating one of these powerful pelagics.
