The Mangrove Jacks were in good numbers this week with the Munna Point
Bridge being one of the hot spots. Sam Litzow (above) from Ipswich hooked up with this 1.7kg specimen while fishing there on Saturday night and was very pleased with his result. Sam, who used a live Yabbie on as his bait, was armed with a Penn rod and a Shimano Sedona reel loaded with 10lb braid and 20lb trace. And Noosaville lad Sam Woodford (right) did well at Sunshine Reef yesterday morning, coming back with a 4.5kg Estuary Cod and a 3kg Red Emperor. Sam was out there with his dad and was using a 55lb handline at the time. His bait? Live Yakka on 2 x 6/0 hooks. Another Mangrove Jack hot spot this week was the stretch between lakes Cootharaba and Cooroibah, and as you can see by the photo below, there were some quality 'Jacks' on the prowl there. Tewantin angler John Mitchell boated a few Flathead and Bream but his standouts during his Sunday morning excursion were these 1.8kg and 2kg 'Dog Bream'. John's outfit was an Ugly Stik and a Shimano 3500 Baitrunner reel loaded with 6kg line and 25lb trace. |
