The Australian BASS Electric Tournament Series 2005

Round Two.... Lake MacDonald

Round Two of the Australian BASS Electric Tournament Series was held at Lake MacDonald yesterday and despite the Australian Basswet and windy South Easterly bluster, 34 anglers signed up to contest for one of the top five spots that could see them into the finals later in the year.
Under the watchful eye of weigh-master Mark Pertot from Davo's Bait and Tackle, eight Bass were presented after roughly five hours, a clear indication of just how tough conditions were out on the water on the day.
Still, there was some quality specimens in amongst the tally with the combined weight of the top two fish (2.07kg and 1.65kg) presented by outright winner Peter James (right), tipping the scales at a very healthy 3.72kg.
Peter, from Tewantin, worked a slow rolling spinnerbait down deep along the weed wall from the pump tower to the spillway dam wall and pipped the runner up by over 600gms.
In second place was Barry Oxford (below left), from Leichardt, with a two fish total of 3.1kg. Barry's effort was a commendable achievement considering he'd competed for most of the tournament with a lure embedded in his right cheek (see photo). Fortunately (he admitted) it wasn't, and now never will be, his favourite lure so apart from the obvious pain and discomfort, he wasn't too handicapped.

And Scott Cameron (above right) from hinterland Yandina actually weighed on the heaviest Bass on the day but as he only managed to boat one fish during the morning, his 2.2kg specimen earned him third place.

Ian Galloway (right) from Jimbimba, South Brisbane, didn't manage to boat a Bass in this leg of the series but certainly came up with an excellent consolation prize when the 70cm Mary River Cod he's posing with slammed his white Nitro spinnerbait.
Ian was working in Borer Creek when this protected native fish slammed his rig and could have been forgiven for hoping that the weight on the other end was a prize winning Bass.
After the weigh-in it was donated to the local hatchery to be assessed and hopefully used for brood stock.
