Jew Shoal fired up at the beginning of the week with plenty of Spotted Mackerel boils to keep the slug casters happy. For the other species, however, results were a bit patchy with only occasional bursts of activity from deep feeding Spanish Mackerel and, as per the photo below left, a few Snapper. Yak Angler Bill 'Billybob' Watson trolled up this 4.5kg specimen yesterday morning just after high tide using a whole Davo's Pilchard on a Spaniard Special troll rig. He was armed with a Wilson Live Fibre 6-8kg rod and a Shimano TSS4 threadline reel loaded with 30lb Platinum line.
Snapper Spanish Mackerel
Most of the Spanish Mackerel action was on Sunshine Reef this week as father and son team Jeffrey and Trystan Sweet (above right) found yesterday morning. The dynamic duo were trolling whole Squid skirted Bonito on 5/0 and 6/0 gangs when they ran through a school of these exciting sports fish around 10.30am. Unfortunately they dropped a few but managed to boat the 6kg and 7.5kg fish they're posing with, plus a couple of Yellowfin Tuna to top up the esky.

Mangrove Jack were still active in the lower estuary and Munna Bridge was as good a place as any to target these hard fighting fish. Of course it helps if you do an overnighter as local angler Shane Johnson (below left) did last Wednesday. Shane, armed with a Silstar combo loaded with 10lb line, tempted this 1.9kg specimen with a live Herring around 2.30am.
Mangrove Jack Snapper
There's been plenty of Snapper on the local reefs and Brisbane angler Kevin Francis (above right) was more than happy to boat this 4.4kg 'Knobby' on Saturday. Kevin was on a full day Cougar Too charter to Double Island Point at the time.
