There were plenty of small Bonito and Mackerel Tuna working the bait schools in Laguna Bay this week and under them was the odd larger fish like the 12kg Spanish Mackerel that local yak angler Don Evans (right) is posing with. Don was on his way home from an unproductive troll session out around the headland on Wednesday morning when his Gold Bomber was ambushed 100 metres out from the Boiling Pot. He was armed with a Shimano Trinidad outfit loaded with 30lb line.

Spanish Mackerel

North Reef was a tad quiet this week but some anglers managed to squeeze a result out of it regardless.

Aaron Bennett from Noosaville was out there on a 3/4 day Cougar One trip on Saturday when things hotted up a bit and this 9kg Cobia savaged Aaron's Pilchard bait.

He was kitted out with a Penn Slammer rod and a Penn overhead reel loaded with 30lb line.
Cobia or Black Kingfish

With the river now clear of weed and run-out murk the whole spectrum of estuary species have been showing up for a feed. Whiting, in particular, have been making their presence felt down at the river mouth as Georgia Lunn and William and Harrison McNeilly found on Saturday morning. These young enthusiasts were using live Yabbies on a No.4 hook as their draw card and, as you can see, did very well with them. They were armed with a Shimano 2000 threadline combo.
Whiting Bream
Bream, as we mentioned in the general report, have been of exceptional quality in the river lately and the 1.1kg 'Yellowfin' that Tobias Sampson (above right) and his able assistant are holding is a prime example. Our dynamic duo caught this quality fish and three others while fishing from the bank in the Woods Bays on Wednesday morning. They were armed with a Penn threadline combo loaded with 8lb line. Their bait? Live Yabby on a No.4 longshank hook.
