We don't get many reports from Ewen Maddock Dam, possibly because it's a land based, paddle and electric motor only, freshwater reserve. This puts it in the 'too hard basket' category for many anglers but for those in the know it's a great fishery. Young Lauren Hinds spent Saturday there with her father Craig and was happy to pose with one of the five Bass they caught and released.
She was using a Squidgy rod, a Shimano Sienna 2000 reel, 8lb braid and a Rapala Glass Shad Rap lure.

Sunshine Reef has been really firing lately (when it's been accessible) and one of the standout species over the last month or so has been the Coral Trout.

Clayton Lyell from Gympie boated this 2.5kg specimen while out there yesterday morning on a half day Cougar Too charter.

He was kitted out with a Wilson Live Fibre rod and an Alvey 825C reel loaded with 30lb line.

And here's another photo of a Bass caught and released at Ewen Maddock Dam on Saturday. Mark Tirrel was there with Craig and Lauren Hinds and considering it's his favourite freshwater fishery, it's best that he get a mention.
Mark's been fishing here for many years, most often in his electric powered canoe, and it's his most closely guarded secret.
So, if you happen to spot him there, say g'day, but please don't tell him where you read about it!
