The recent rains have livened up the freshwater scene and Lake MacDonald has certainly felt the benefit. Mal Favager, left, used a Ghost Minnow spinnerbait to good effect out there yesterday morning, casting it into the weed from his boat and working it at the two metre level. This 1.5kg Bass couldn't resist the temptation and paid the price. He was armed with a Penn combo loaded with 4kg Spider Wire and Platypus 2000 trace. And right, Brisbane angler Ben Fuller boated this quality 565gm Whiting down at the river mouth on Wednesday morning using live Prawns on a No.4 hook for bait. His gear was a Penn Power Stik and a Shimano spin reel loaded with 9lb line and trace.

With the school holidays in full swing the young guns have been out in force and they've been doing very well as you can see. From the left we have Chris Lacey, his younger brother Shannon and cousin Tyson, flush with success from their Thursday morning workout around the Munna Bridge. The boys were using live Prawns, from Davo's of course, and were kitted out with Shimano 3500 Baitrunner combos loaded with 3kg line. As you can see, Whiting, Flathead and Trevally were on the menu and young Shannon pulled the standout of the morning with a Trevally that weighed in at 1.3kg.

And far right it's Jackson Kidd with his first fish, a 225gm Flathead caught on a live Prawn. Jackson received a Jarvis Walker spin combo for Christmas and christened the outfit on Tuesday morning at the Lions' Park near the Sheraton.
