Cobia were in good numbers on most of the local reefs this week although Chris Boyd's 23kg specimen appears to have been the top weight. Chris was floating out a Pilchard at North Reef on Saturday when this quality Black Kingfish came to the party. He was armed with a Penn 8500 Spinfisher threadline combo loaded with 50lb line and 100lb trace.

The Woods Bays play host to all manner of fish species and one that often catches anglers by surprise is the Surgeon Fish, mainly because it is most often associated with coral reefs. Young Mitchel Rodwell (below left) caught two of these fish in 'the bays' last Monday afternoon with the 800gm specimen he's pictured with being the top weight.

As mentioned earlier, Whiting were in good numbers this week, especially up along the Goat Island stretch. Brisbane angler Alan Kregenbrink (above right) was very happy with the 500gm specimen he boated last Monday afternoon. He was armed with an Alvey boat combo loaded with 6lb line. His bait? Live Yabby on a No.6 longshank hook.

It's taken from Billybob Watson's 'yak cam', which is mounted on the front of his kayak, and shows him playing out and successfully landing a 14kg Giant Trevally from his fishing kayak in Laguna Bay.
