Many offshore anglers made the most of Wednesday's TGO conditions ahead
of the south easterly blow and local yak angler
Mal Price (right) was one of them. Mal was on the water half an hour after
first light and paddled out to Big Hall's Reef on his Perception Swing
'Angler' fishing kayak to give it his best shot. And didn't
he do well? Trolling a Davo's Spaniard Special
with a Slimy Mackerel bait Mal hooked and boated a 2.5kg Spotted Mackerel,
a 6kg Spanish Mackerel and later (on cast slugs) caught and released two
Mackerel Tuna. He was kitted out with an Okuma rod and a Shimano TSS4
reel loaded with 30lb Platinum line. Considering this was only Mal's fourth
trip out on his kayak, and his round trip was clocked on his GPS at 27
kilometres, it was a well earned result.
Matt Bocking from Brisbane, below left, was in and out of Davo's
most of the week buying bait and weighing in his catch which, apart from
the 1.45kg Flathead he's pictured with, also included Trevally. Matt nailed
this nice eating size 'Lizard' while fishing from the middle groyne on
Main Beach around Friday lunchtime. He was using a Jarvis Walker rod and
a Daiwa threadline reel loaded with 10lb line and 10lb trace. His bait?
Squid on a 4/0 hook.
And Karl Enchelmaier (below right) from Whiteside, North Brisbane, was
another keen angler who got consistent results, this time on the Chopper
Tailor. Karl was working down around the river mouth using Pilchard on
a 4/0 hook for bait and weighed in fish from 1kg to 1.4kg from Monday
to Saturday. He was armed with a Mitchell Spidercast baitcast combo loaded
with 15lb line to a wire trace.
