Local angler Craig Hinds (below left) got the whisper that the 'Jacks' were well and truly on the bite around the snags from the Woods Point to the river mouth this week so headed down there on Saturday night to try his luck.
And didn't he do well? Apart from over a dozen Estuary Cod (caught and released) and a couple of large Grunter Bream, Craig managed to tempt this 2.4kg Mangrove Jack with a live Poddy Mullet just on the bottom of the tide.
He was armed with a Shimano Starlo Stix Tournament Pro Mid Spin rod with a Daiwa Exceler 2500 reel and 9lb mono.

And Kevin Telfar (above right) was lucky enough to get over the bar on Monday before the winds picked up again. Kevin did a quick run to Arkwright Shoal where, using whole Pilchard baits, he boated these two 2kg Sweetlip and a 3kg Parrot Fish. He was kitted out with a Shimano Catana rod and a Shimano Baitrunner 6500 reel loaded with 30lb braid.

Another angler who took advantage of last Monday's glassy conditions was Ben Nothling, right.
Ben and a few fishing buddies headed 'out wide' to The Hards where they made the most of the lull before (once again) the storm.

During a long hot session they bagged out on Snapper (to 5kg), and boated a good haul of Pearl Perch, Gold Spot Wrasse, Pig Fish, Small Mouth Nannygai and, as you can see by the photo on the right, quality Amberjack.

And sharing a great day with Ben, his good buddy Darren Lacey (right) just couldn't get he smile off his face.

The boys had been putting in some time refining their soft plastic technique lately which was just as well as the reefies were not responding to baits at all on the day.

Not to be deterred the boys re-rigged and ended up catching most of their fish on Nuclear Chooks and Pearl White Berkley 7" soft plastics.

They were armed with Daiwa/Shimano combos loaded with 14lb Fireline and 30lb mono traces.

Snapper

There haven't been many trophy fish caught by land based coastal anglers lately so the 7.5kg Jewfish that Aden Pesarini caught around the National Park headland last Monday night was easily this weeks standout. Aden set himself up at the Fairy Pools after dark and, using a light Daiwa surf combo and a Mullet fillet bait, eventually got the result he was after.
