OFFSHORE: Well, we've just had one of those glorious weeks when you wouldn't be dead for quids. The light variable winds (tending mostly South Westerly) carried over from last week and with the swell comfortably under the one metre mark, continued to provide absolutely ideal conditions for offshore anglers. The results from the reefs were nothing short of outstanding with Squire, Pearl and Moses Perch, Parrot Fish, Snapper and Cobia common to most of those visited. The standouts in the above species, and there were some thumpers, came from North Reef (together with a few Maori Cod) and Double Island Point, while the Barwon Banks yielded Longtail Tuna and quality Amberjack as a bonus. Narelle Wylie's 3kg Snapper, above, was part of the Cougar 'I' catch at Double Island Point last Saturday and a good sign of things to come for the rest of the week. Narelle, a member of the Brisbane based 'Austral Fishing Club', boated her prize in the early afternoon using Mullet fillet for bait. She was armed with a Gary Howard rod and an Alvey reel loaded with 30lb line. The rest of the catch was Squire and more Snapper.

ONSHORE: The East coast beach action slowed somewhat with mostly Whiting and Bream coming from Peregian Beach and Chopper Tailor from the Northern end of Sunshine Beach. The stretch between the groynes on Main Beach yielded Bream and Flathead while the North Shore was very quiet with only the odd Tailor catch reported. In the river, Luderick fired up intermittently at the river mouth car park rocks with the average size 1.0 to 1.2kg. The Woods Bays, Munna Bridge and the back of the Sound saw most of the action this week with Queenfish, Trevally (also at the 1st ski run) and Tailor going for Rapala and Bomber lures and small 'Pink Thing' flies. And it was at the 2nd ski run that Isaac Collis, left, nailed this 2.805kg Trevally on a green/yellow deep diving Bomber lure last Saturday afternoon. Isaac, from Mullimbimby, was using a Silstar rod, an Abu 6000 reel, 7kg line and 30lb trace.
A few Mangrove Jacks made a splash up at the second lake, Munna Point produced the odd Mulloway to 4.5kg and Flathead were taken mostly on the drift in Weyba Creek, at Munna Point and around Goat Island, which was where young Daniel Pertot, centre, got this 0.715kg specimen trolling a gold Bomber lure last Friday morning. He was kitted out with a G-Loomis rod and a Shimano Calcutta 250 reel loaded with 6lb Fireline. Exactly a year ago this week Adele O'Hara, right, appeared on our report on her last holiday in Noosa from Illawong in New South Wales. Last Tuesday afternoon she took her trusty hand line down to Main Beach and using bread on a No.1 longshank, landed this 640gm Bream, earning herself a spot in the report once again. We'll look forward to seeing her same time next year.
Oh, and check out the thumper Cobia on the next page..
