Flathead have been in good numbers in the estuary system this season and this week they were well spread and on the bite from Lake Cooroibah to the river mouth.

Local angler Joal Smith's catch was a little out of the norm, however, as it was after dark on Monday night when this 'Lizard' swallowed his whole Pilchard bait.

Joal was fishing along the Gympie Terrace stretch when he landed this nice table fish and a few Bream as well.

He was armed with a Shakespeare Pro Touch rod and a Shimano Sedona 4000 reel loaded with 10lb line.

With news that the Queenfish were once again smashing into the bait schools in the inner Woods Bay Chris Lacey headed around there in his tinny late on Wednesday afternoon in the hope of getting a piece of the action.

Unfortunately, while the 'Skinnys' were making a splash they weren't responding to lures so Chris switched targets and, using a Rio's Prawn lure, boated this 2.2kg Trevally.

He was kitted out with a G-Loomis 4lb-8lb rod and a Shimano Stradic 1000 reel loaded with 3lb Fireline and 12lb monofilament leader.

With the winds very light to almost nonexistent this week, Lake MacDonald was a glass-out on most days as you can see by the accompanying photo.

Lloyd Roberston took the opportunity to enjoy the amenities of this pristine waterway on Friday morning, and joined his son Scott (see page one) in targeting the Bass.

The father and son team had a ball catching and releasing these great freshwater natives using soft plastics, the healthy specimen that Lloyd's posing with being a good example of the average size.
