Laguna Bay ran hot and cold this week but when newly initiated Perception Yak Angler Peter Morris (right) launched into the bay late on Friday afternoon it turned out to be a real sizzler. Peter was only on his second time out on his Swing 'Angler' kayak and got a real wake-up South of Jew Shoal when his trolled Slimy Mackerel bait was taken by the 19.2kg Northern Bluefin Tuna in the photo. This hard fighting 'Longtail' towed him aggressively around the bay for just over an hour before finally giving up the fight. Peter was armed with a 10kg-15kg Abu Sonar Tip rod and a Shimano TSS4 threadline reel loaded with 25lb Schneider line and 40lb trace.

And Peter Oudyn from Coolum (below) pulled this quality 4kg Sweetlip while on a half day Cougar One charter to Sunshine Reef on Friday. He was kitted out with a Wilson Live Fibre rod and a Shimano TLD 15 reel loaded with 25lb line Pioneer Flexline. The rest of the catch was Snapper, Squire, Pearl Perch and Parrot Fish.

There were a few Tarwhine feeding in the coastal surf gutters but not in such significant numbers to rate in the general report. Melbourne visitor Matt Bugge (below left) tempted this 550gm specimen with a live Beach Worm last Tuesday night while fishing at Peregian Beach. He was using a Jarvis Walker boat rod and an Okuma Epix spin reel loaded with 4kg line.

Sunshine Reef has been producing some very good Snapper lately although the 6.5kg 'Knobby' that local angler Nathan Theverkauf (above right) boated there on Thursday would have been one of the standouts. Nathan was armed with a Jarvis Walker 'Snapper' rod and a Penn 330GTi reel loaded with 10kg line and 40lb Trace. His bait? Pilchard on a 3/0 hook.
