| Working in the 'Industry' it's not hard to accumulate a lot of equipment but when I go freshwater fishing I usually take three rigs; my G-Loomis/Shimano baitcaster combo, a fly oufit and, pictured below, my favourite Daiwa threadline combo. | |
 This consists of a Team Daiwa 1500CU five ball bearing, ultra smooth threadline reel which has an infinite anti-reverse for instantaneous hook sets and a drag system that is simply awesome. I've matched this reel with a Daiwa 'Heartland' Magnum Taper HL CX602 LFS 4-8lb 6' two-piece graphite rod which comes with high-frame silicon guides. With its fast taper the 'Heartland' has one of the best actions I've ever seen and yet only weighs 115gms which means it balances perfectly with the TDS reel. I've spooled this outfit with 6lb Berkley Fireline and use 14lb Berkley Vanish Fluorocarbon as a leader. This is a great outfit for working impoundments such as lakes MacDonald and Borumba, buzzing 1/4oz spinnerbaits across the weeds targeting Bass and Sartatoga. I also use this rig with great succes at Lake Somerset, casting and retrieving 'Slider Grubs' on a 3/8oz jig head, as pictured above right. |

| These 'Grubs' work a treat on schooled up Bass in deep water and there's nothing better than to hook up on a 50cm+ specimen with an attitude (and weighing over 2kg), prepared to take a lot of line and give your drag a workout. Great fun! | |
