There were plenty of Bluefins in the bay this week
for those prepared to chase them and Les Farge (below left) from Weyba
Downs was one of the keener ones. Les did very well to boat this 10.5kg
'Longtail' on Thursday morning considering he was lightly armed with a
Purglas rod and a Shimano Bantam 50 reel loaded with 4kg line and 10kg
trace.![]() Young Chris Bland (above right) loves to target the local Bream and does very well at it. Chris landed a number of these 'Yellowfins' around the Gympie Terrace jetties this week with his standout being a very nice 600gm specimen. He was armed with a Jarvis Walker rod and a Quantum reel loaded with 8lb line. His bait was Herring on a No.4 longshank hook. |
| The local yak
anglers had a field day in the bay this week and only new to the sport,
Richard Pikus (right) was keen to get some runs on the board. And he did that in style on Friday when he hooked and boated the 9.2kg Northern Bluefin Tuna he's pictured with while trolling a gold, shallow diving Bomber style lure from his Swing Angler kayak. Not bad for only his second time out in the bay! He was armed with a Shimano Taipan 6kg-10kg 'Snapper' rod and an Okuma Epix 60 threadline reel loaded with 20lb Fireline and 30lb trace. ![]() |

| Barry Jackson (above left) may look like he's playing the banjo but he's actually showing us his version of how you hold a 2.5kg Saratoga for the camera before releasing it. We're not sure about the technique but the fish looks like it's enjoying itself. Barry caught and released this quality 'Toga' while contesting the BASS Electric competition at Lake MacDonald yesterday. He was armed with a G-Loomis CBR843 rod and a Shimano Chronarch reel loaded with 10lb Superbraid. |
