Sunshine Reef was hot, hot, hot this week and the coral trout were well and truly on the bite. Local angler 'Woody' fished the southern end of the reef away from most of the pelagic activity and was rewarded with two 'Trout', top weight 5.5kg.

With the murk clearing from the inner reefs the Spanish mackerel were in full on feed mode at Sunshine Reef. Stephen McCord was out there on Saturday doing a spot of bottom bashing but his pilchard baits (and line) kept getting bitten off by the mackerel. Playing the odds he managed to hook and land three Spaniards (8kg to 10kg) before heading for home.

Angus Smith was bottom bashing at North Reef on Thursday when his squid/pilchard combo was taken by the 23kg cobia he's posing with. He also boated a yellowfin tuna and a few moses perch, squire and parrot fish but who's counting.

And the day before at North Reef, Jason Massey from Griffith and Charlie Eggers from Brisbane (below) hit the jackpot when they boated these two quality fish; an 8kg snapper and 11kg jewfish. Their baits? Live slimy mackerel.
Snapper and Jewfish

As already mentioned, the Spanish mackerel seemed to be everywhere this week. Daniel Mackle and Ben McKenna from Brisbane (below) got their 7kg and 9kg (est) Spaniards on Sunday's Cougar One full day charter to Double Island Point.
