The Toby Brown/Cowbell Competition was held at Lake MacDonald over the weekend with the Lake MacDonald Club once again taking out the honours.

Sixteen anglers (eleven from Yandina and five from the local club) fished this annual event at various times over the weekend with 35 Bass and 10 Catfish coming into the weighmaster. Jim Underwood took out the Largest Catfish Award with a 1.215 kg specimen.

The Biggest Bass for the weekend was caught by Lake MacDonald club member Paul Fleming (right) with a 50cm ( 2.375kg ) fish.
Paul's wife Sue (below) ran second with a fish of 48cm or 2.21kg.
TT Spinnerbaits and Gold and Chameleon Jackals won the day.

Laguna Bay is slowly starting to fire and coincidentally the dreaded 'Weed' is also starting to show on the North Shore and on Main Beach.

While this is not a good sign for beach goers it usually heralds the arrival of the pelagics in the bay, as local yak angler Bill 'Billybob' Watson (right) was able to confirm on Sunday.

Bill was paddle trolling a Gold Bomber behind his Perception Swing 'Angler' fishing kayak yesterday morning when it was slammed by a 6.2kg Mackerel Tuna on the outer edge of Little Hall's Reef.

Half and hour later on his way to Big Hall's Reef he hooked onto a 6.5kg Mackerel Tuna 30 metres away from a large bait boil.

As the boil was being worked hard by three rather large Bronze Whalers that were right on the surface, he didn't play that fish out for too long.

Bill was armed with a Wilson Live Fibre rod and a Shimano TSS4 reel loaded with 30lb Platinum line.
