The mangrove jacks were in excellent numbers in the stretch
between the lakes this week and Jason Miller (below) was one of the fortunate
anglers who were there when they were firing. Jason was floating out a live
biddy from his boat on Saturday night when this 2.1kg specimen tried the
usual Jack 'hit and run for structure' tactic, this time without success.![]() |
Local angler Ben Nothling (below) did well at The Hards on
Saturday, boating snapper, parrot fish, teraglin jewfish, pearl perch, yellowtail
kingfish and this nice 7kg mahi mahi or dolphin fish. Ben, who was armed
with a Wilson Live Fibre rod and a Shimano Baitrunner 6500 reel loaded with
30lb line, was using pilchard floaters as his main draw card.![]() |

And a few of the lads from the Noosa Offshore Fishing Club did an overnighter at Double Island Point on Saturday and in a couple of dynamic but sporadic sessions boated cobia, moses perch, parrot fish, Maori cod and, as per the photos below, snapper and coronation trout. Pictured are Robert Wilson (below left) and his son-in-law Kent Deere with a 4.7kg 'Knobby' and a 3.5kg trout. The guys tried squid baits and bonito fillets but most of the fish were taken on pilchards. |
