This morning's Cougar One trip to Chardon's Reef came up with quite a few quality Pearl Perch and (below left) Andrew Austin from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is seen posing with a very good example. Armed with a Gary Howard rod and an Alvey 725C reel loaded with 30lb Pioneer Flexline, Andrew boated this 3kg specimen using a Pilchard/Squid combo.
Pearl Perch and Amberjack
Mandy Denaro (above right) from Bli Bli on the Sunshine Coast hit the jackpot on Saturday morning when she boated this 14kg Amberjack on a Cougar One charter to Double Island Point. Mandy, part of an O'Brien Glass work group, was also in on the rest of the catch which consisted of Snapper, Squire, Maori Cod, Sweetlip, Moses Perch and Pearl Perch.

Local angler Dave Devonshire, below left, just missed out being in last week's report by an hour or two so here he is now with the 2.54kg Snapper he boated at Sunshine Reef last Thursday morning. Dave was armed with a Penn Power Stick and a Shimano TSS-4 threadline reel loaded with 10kg line and 15kg trace. His bait? Whole Pilchard on 6/0 gangs.
Snapper Sweetlip and Maori Cod
On a Cougar One charter to North Reef on Tuesday morning Sydney couple Liz Ellis and Mathew Stocks, above right, were the only anglers not getting any bites until the suspicious skipper, Adi 'Kiwi' Rouse, checked their tote bag and found, you guessed it, a banana! Anyone who's been offshore fishing before knows that green underpants and bananas are guaranteed to put the hex on any fishing trip. Within minutes of the offending yellow object being hurled into the ocean both Liz and Mathew hooked up, then tangled up, with this 1.5kg Sweetlip (Liz's) and 3kg Maori Cod (Mathew's) coming over the side together. They were kitted out with Gary Howard rods and Alvey 725C reels loaded with 30lb line.
