There are still quite a few quality Snapper around on the close reefs as local angler David Hatch (right) found when he dropped the pick at Sunshine Reef on Wednesday afternoon. David, using a mix of Pilchards and Mackerel Tuna fillets as his draw card, revealed that he dropped an absolute snodger before he boated these 7.5kg and 8kg 'Knobbys'. He was kitted out with a Shakespeare Ugly Stik and a Penn 950SS threadline reel loaded with 30lb line and 50lb trace.

And Brisbane angler Mark Wacker (above left) got the surprise of his life out at Jew Shoal yesterday morning. Mark had only just started trolling a Squid skirted Pilchard on 4x5/0 ganged hooks when this hard fighting 8kg Yellowtail Kingfish monstered it. He was kitted out with a Butterworth rod and a Daiwa spin reel loaded with 20lb line and 70lb trace.
