Local angler Paul Grenfell (right) usually comes back with a few quality fish whenever he visits the local reefs but the 13kg Red Emperor he boated at The Hards on Saturday morning was a standout in anyone's book.
Paul tempted this thumper 'Government Bream' with a Pilchard bait on a Snapper rig. He was armed with a Gary Howard Angler rod and a Shimano TLD25 reel loaded with 50lb mono line.
Red Emperor

We've had a pretty good Snapper season this year with plenty of 4kg to 5kg fish on the chew around the middle distance reef belt stretch.
Angela Broderick from Victoria (right) boated this very nice 5kg Snapper at 'The Hill' during a full day Cougar Too charter on Friday.
She was armed with an Angler rod and a Shimano Baitrunner 6500B reel loaded with 8kg line. The rest of the catch was Cobia, Pearl Perch, Moses Perch and Parrot Fish.

There were a few thumper Trevally on the bite in the Woods Bays this week but Birdman's fish (below left) topped them all at 3.5kg. He was using a Shakespeare Ugly Stik/Abu baitcaster reel combo,10lb line, 50lb trace and a live Biddy bait.
Trevally Flathead
Culgoa Point was good for Trevally and, as you can see by the photo above right, Flathead this week. Sydney visitor Nick Hart was floating out a whole Prawn from one of the jetties on Saturday when this hungry 'Lizard' well and truly nailed it.

Oh, and if you haven't already done so, check out Billybob Watson's latest kayak fishing article just posted on the site.

It'll give you a good idea of what it's like to hook up with and land a quality Spanish Mackerel from one of these relatively small fishing platforms.
