| Once you've decided the guide position, tape the end of the binding thread roughly 4-5cm up from where you intend the under-bind to start. | ![]() |
| Wind the thread down the rod until you reach the desired starting position, straighten your line and bind back tightly over the starting thread. | ![]() |
| Continue the bind back up the rod over the starting thread for at least a half a dozen turns to anchor it firmly. | ![]() |
| Remove the tape holding down the starting thread to the rod and cut it close to the bind as indicated, then continue binding by rotating the rod, maintaining tension on the thread. | ![]() |
| When you reach the measured midsection of your underbind place the guide you intend to use over the underbind to guage your middle point. | ![]() |
| At
this stage, if you wish, you can add a contrasting colour. Cut off an appropriate length of the contrast thread and slip it under the end of the underbind as shown. |

| Continue binding over the contrasting thread for half a dozen turns. | ![]() |
| At this point, reverse the position of the two threads so that the contrast colour is now overlapping the original colour. | ![]() |
