...with Sam Ladd, Noosa Blue Water Charters. |
| I
have been using the Shimano Baitrunner range of reels for many years both
in the charter game and for personal fishing, initially with the 3500
and 6500 Baitrunners and more recently with the Thunnus 1200. We use the
Baitrunners extensively for our float lines with great results and reliability,
especially now with the Thunnus. Both the baitrunner mode and fish fighting drags have stood up to the pressures of some big fish and seem to really come into their own when hooked up with the larger species. These reels are extremely strong, sturdy and well balanced especially when teamed up with the Penn Power Sticks which are rated at 10kg. We consider this an excellent combination that can be used successfully and comfortably in almost any situation. The larger the fish the better this reel feels and I have successfully fished the Thunnus for Snapper up to 9kg, Red Emperor to 12kg, Spanish Mackerel to 15kg, Cobia to 30kg, Black Marlin to 70kg, and Sailfish to 80kg. They are very versatile and extremely reliable and I certainly would always include one in my box of tricks. |
