Now here's a great catch! At 6.63kg this is about as big as the Snub-Nosed Dart get in our waters and to hook and land it on a little No.4 longshank was a great effort. Tewantin angler Dave King was up on the North Shore just South of the Cherry Venture on Saturday afternoon when he nailed this 'Oyster Eater' on a Pippie. Considering Dave was after a feed of Whiting you can understand his surprise when he found himself battling this monster for half an hour. He was using a Snyder Glas surf rod, an Alvey 6'' reel, 15lb line and trace.

Trevally were 'Fish of the Week' at Davo's Bait and Tackle and the prize was hotly contested, as you can see by the quality of the fish weighed in. Terry Simmonds from Brisbane landed his 2.8kg entry on a diving minnow lure in Weyba Creek on Friday morning. He was armed with a 6' Bream rod and a 5" Alvey reel loaded with 9lb line and 15lb trace.

At twilight on Saturday, Tim Robbins (centre) came pretty close with the 2.57kg specimen he boated casting a Rubbertail jig near Weyba Bridge. Tim was kitted out with an Ugly Stik and a Shimano Baitrunner 3500 reel loaded with 3kg line to a 20lb trace. He caught and released two others. Last but not least of course, was the eventual winner, local angler Brad Conroy. Brad made a worthwhile trip up the beach to Double Island Point on Saturday morning and nailed the 3.665kg prize winner with a Pilchard on 3/0 ganged hooks. He was using a Butterworth surf rod, an Alvey reel, 20lb line and 30lb trace. Bream, Tarwhine and Whiting made up the bag.
Six year old Lilly Cohen called into Davo's last Wednesday morning with her father Geoff and went off to Munna Beach armed with a Jarvis Walker 'Water Rat' combo, 3kg line, fresh Prawns and lots of determination. Two hours later she was back in with this 250gm Whiting and a big smile. Lilly's dad's the chef/partner in one of our favourite restaurants, 'Trios' at Harbourtown, but I'm sure this fish was destined for the home menu that night. Oh, if you like Mussels in white wine sauce, 'Trios' serve the best in town.
